July's Fynbos Rambles

Typical Cape Winter the way it used to be. Cold. And wet. We got only 2 hikes.

We have a Fynbos Rambles on the Cape Peninsula project on iNaturalist. As we work back adding observations from our hikes, we have 570 species. 483 plants, including 35 Peninsula Endemics. 73 assorted animals including 52 arthropods. 12 mushrooms and lichen.

Now I can use the tools iNat has to offer!

Reunion and Jardin des Parfums et des Epices

Last November.
Pink bananas and pink pineapples.
Vanilla orchids.
Scaevola that grows in salt spray on the shore.
Grass that can colonise lava by the sea.
A tropicbird with long white tail.
Lichen that colonises lava.

So many exotic plants (and bird).
Wonderful to meet in life what I recognise from iNat!

Cape Peninsula Lifelist

Lifelist is buggy?

821 species today.
https://www.inaturalist.org/lifelists/dianastuder?tree_mode=full_taxonomy&place_id=123155

The formal list is
https://www.inaturalist.org/check_lists/900895-Adamson---Salter-List

iNat's places shows me at 778 species
https://www.inaturalist.org/places/cape-peninsula#/places/cape-peninsula=

Disa ferruginea doesn't show up on my 'lifelist' but it is on the other 2.
778 versus 821 species - will have to stumble after both numbers.
