Mariazofia pinguis (Solier 1843)

At first glance, this species resembles Mariazofia gibba and its varieties or closely related species, but it is distinct due to pilosity on the stripes, that are somewhat sunken and the long legs.

Original description by Solier 1843 (translated from Latin and French):
https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/32661#page/342/mode/1up

Shiny black, obsoletely punctate above, short, subglobose. Prothorax shorter. On the elytra, the suture and three broad red lines are impressed posteriorly, greyish pubescent.

Near the species vittata in the short, subglobose shape of its hindquarters and its smooth appearance; but very distinct from this species by the following characters: tergum of the prothorax a little shorter and proportionally wider; red lines of the elytra wider, slightly sunken in furrows and pubescent, as well as the suture, at their posterior part; first interval extending to near the end. As with all the previous species, the coloured part of the suture and the bands are obliterated well before the base. Legs less robust than in the species lineata, with less gray femora and less curved posterior tibiae. Abdomen finely punctate, with a broad round red pubescent spot on the second segment, in one of the individuals before my eyes, and without any spot in the other.
Length: 21 mm

Type locality: Cape

Description by Haag-Rutenberg, 1871 (translated from Latin and German):
https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/81206#page/234/mode/1up

Black, spherical, shiny; shorter thorax with rough sides; elytra globose, suture and three lines, posteriorly impressed, greyish-pubescent, red; legs elongated, femora thickened.
Length 20-21 mm
Female: 2nd abdominal segment rusty tomentose

This species is again very similar to species vittatus and striatus, but has distinctly longer and thicker legs, the pronotum is lateral more granulated and the stripes are more deepened towards the back, posteriorly with longer or shorter hair. These stripes are similar to species spinolae punctuated anteriorly, posteriorly densly but very finely granulated. The colour of the pronotum is a black brown and may have irregular dark red patches.
Cape. Not rare.
