I didn't find any new species for Gregg County today, but I found a cool new fishing spot on one of the local creeks. The parts of this creek I've hiked so far have a clay bottom, but I found a section with a rocky bottom; it has a short rapids section that ends in a pond. I thought that since this part of the creek is different, it might have different species. I found two Largemouth Bass and a 14" Channel Catfish in the rapids section, and more catfish in the pond. Then I ran out of bait! :-(
I'll go back to this spot later. I'm hoping to find new microspecies, but I didn't see any.
On Google Maps, I found a park recently bought by one of the local megachurches that has two lakes surrounded by a biking/walking trail. Fortunately, it's open to public. http://www.mobberly.org/story_article/mobberlys_williams_lake
I really want to fish this lake this week!
