You’re not dreaming — California really does have orioles.

There are nine known species of orioles in the United States — Baltimore, orchard, Bullock’s, Scott’s, spot-breasted, Altamira, Audubon’s, hooded and the streak-backed. I’m guessing the ones you saw during your father’s tours were Baltimore orioles. In the Bay Area, our two most common visitors are the hooded and the Bullock’s.
