I’m a retired IT engineer, farmer’s daughter and amateur artist/photographer with a keen interest in the natural world.

I began photographing birds in 2017 for painting reference and have upgraded my camera equipment over time due to some macular sight issues. I can no longer see birds that well in the field. I depend on the camera to capture their images and am often delighted to learn what I actually “saw”, later on my PC.

Moths became an interest after I watched a 2021 Moth Week Zoom presentation from the Pima County Environmental Education department in Tucson, AZ (https://pima-county-environmental-education.ticketleap.com/). I read Moths: A Complete Guide to Biology and Behavior by David Lees & Alberto Zilli and after attending my first “mothing” event was totally hooked. A 100mm macro lens has further fueled my passion for insects and arachnids. After converting my front and back yards to all native plants, I now see a huge variety of native species just outside my door.

I depend on the knowledgeable iNat identifiers to tell me exactly what creatures I have encountered through the lens. I am most fond of true bugs, bee flies, wasps and just about anything that visits my Rush Milkweed bushes.
