I am currently engrossed in observe and identify plants and animals of all kinds in the Coachella Valley and Joshua Tree National Park. The region’s ecology leads me to study geology, geography, hydrology, climate, and cultural history. All of this keeps me off the streets, gives me physical and mental workouts, and provides me with a sense of wonder.

Thanks to all the identifiers of iNaturalist, my fellow Climate Stewards and California Naturalists, and my instructors for their past and ongoing teaching.

“A long time ago, I became aware that many of us have a tendency to lump nature into simplistic categories, such as what we consider beautiful or ugly, important or unimportant. As human a thing as that is to do, I think it often leads us to misunderstand the respective roles of life forms and their interconnectedness.”
~ Gary Larson
