Hello! My name is Katie and I came to the beautiful Cayman Islands in February 2016 to join The Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) team as their Education and Outreach Instructor. From there I went on to become CCMI’s Science Programme Coordinator, then their Diving Safety Officer, and lastly their Science and Education Manager. I left CCMI in December of 2019 to travel the world with my husband, however we had to put that on hold due to CoVID-19 and we were happily welcomed back in Cayman to avoid the pandemic across the rest of the world. Since our return in May 2020, I have been working as a Visiting Researcher (Marine Science Intern, technically) with the Cayman Islands Department of Environment's Marine Resource Unit. I have a B.S. Degree in Marine Science and Coastal Geology from Coastal Carolina University (USA) and attended Nova Southeastern University (USA) for my M.S. Degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management. In addition, I am an AAUS scientific diver and SDI Open Water Scuba Instructor with over 4,000 dives and specialties in solo diving, cave diving, and side-mount diving. I discovered iNaturalist on a research expedition to the Schoodic Institute in Maine, USA during the fall of 2018 and have been hooked ever since!
