I have a PhD in evolutionary genetics of ciliate protists. I taught population biology at University of Illinois at Chicago. I have been a volunteer steward of Cranberry Slough, an Illinois Nature Preserve. I was Director of UIC's prairie in Glenview, Illinois. I am retired. I have focused on revitalization of natural areas still dominated by native plants. Fire is an important part of revitalizing oak woodlands.
