Frog

One day after training I was changing my clothes and when I finished I started walking to my room. I was with Simon, while walking to my room and on my way I found a frog. I told Simon and I remembered about iNaturalist so I took my phone out and snapped a picture. After that I stayed a bit to watch the frog a little closer and see what it was all about. I observed that it was huge because where I used to live, there weren't a lot of frogs. If I saw one it wasn’t that big. After watching the frog and taking the picture I continued on my way to my room and I was happy I found it.

Through my research, I learned that you can find frogs near a lake or in humid areas. Their kingdom is Animal. They are 30 in to 16.7in and they weigh between 0.3oz to 98oz. Frogs eat insects such as flies and moths as well as snails and worms.Their skin requires freshwater so they need to live in aquatic and swampy habitats. The greatest concentration of frogs are in rainforests. Frogs are most active at night and they hibernate during the winter under piles of rotting leaves, logs or stones. Their predators are smalls mammals, lizards and snakes, water shrews and other birds.Frogs have an important role in the food chain as a predator and prey.Their skin makes them sensitive creatures. Through their skin they absorb chemicals from water and air. In most species of frogs, fertilization is external; some frogs usually lay about 2,500 eggs. The frogs also have an excellent night vision and are very sensitive to movement; their bulging eyes allow them to look in front, to the sides and partially behind them. A group of frogs is called an army. Frogs drink water from their skin. They can also be found all around the world. The world’s largest frog is called “Goliath Frog”.
There are more than 6,000 species of frogs. As tadpoles, they eat algae, helping regulate blooms and reducing the chances of algal contamination. Frogs are an important source of food for a variety of animals, including birds, fish, monkeys and snakes. Frogs have no tail, except as larvae, and most have long hind legs, elongated ankle bones, webbed toes, no claws, large eyes, and a smooth or warty skin. They have short vertebral columns, with no more than 10 free vertebrae and fused tailbones. A common frog can live around 10 to 12 years. Frog eggs provide food for insects, like spiders and wasps, while tadpoles fill the bellies of fish, birds and some insects. With a wide range of birds, mammals and reptiles relying on adult frogs for food, their disappearance would drastically affect entire ecosystems. A fun fact about frogs is that they can run 10 miles per hour. Some frogs have tiny teeth on their upper jaws and the roof of their mouths while others sport fanlike structures. Some species are completely toothless. And only one frog, out of the more-than 7,000 species, has true teeth on both upper and lower jaws.
