Massive Rainbow manzanitas probably 70+ years old. For a usually small low-growing shrub this is pretty impressive. The chaparral here hasn’t burned in a long time allowing it to get nice and big.
Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve. Burl present but not photographed
Chapstick = 7 cm. Leaf blades up to 10 cm long, glaucous-green. At first I thought this was A. glauca due to the size of the leaves, but getting closer revealed a prominent basal burl. Glauca appears frequently along this trail however.
Along trail to fisherman’s camp. Shares the area with A. glauca and A. glandulosa.
