With Don Fraser; a visit to see what was around (answer: no mucho). The only nectar sources were some goldenrods and Rosy Camphorweeds. the last few blooming Nuttall's Thistles, and Tarflower, which is blooming much more than a week ago. Insects were scarce. Despite the rains of a week ago, there remains virtually no standing water. We first iNatted the helipad, which was under-whelming, so we drove the entirety of 3 Bridges Road, much of Indigo Drive, and some of Gopher Road looking for nectar sources. The weather at the start (0955) was sunny and 86 degrees ("feels like" 96) with a light breeze. By the time we left, at 1410, the temperature was 92 "feels like" 101).

Large turtle with long nose. In brackish lagoon.
First Queen this year.
A solo visit to see what was around, and because I had not been out for eight days. Because of all the rain we have gotten the past few days -- and it is raining again as I write this -- I decided to avoid South Road and to stay on 3 Bridges Road and Gopher Road. As it turns out, I saw Julie Appleget on 3 Bridges Road and she said that she drove South Road earlier today. I did not stop along Rattlesnake Camp Road, so these records are solely from 3 Bridges Road (for its entire length) and Gopher Road. I saw very few nectar sources, so butterflies were pretty scarce; the only hotspot was a big clump of Tarflower, which attracted many swallowtails and one duskywing. I think I got two life moths if they get RGed. The weather at the start was sunny and 86 degrees ("feels like" 94) with a light breeze. I left at 1522, when the weather was sunny and 93 degrees ("feels like" 102) with a light breeze.
