Aethalia: 10-30 cm, in irregular patches covering sticks and moss, dark blue-grey, becoming greyish-white with lime; composed of tightly packed globose sporothecae, 0.3-0.7 mm diam. Peridium: hyaline, coated in lime granules. Pseudocapillitium: elongated lime-filled nodes with sparse hyaline to pale brown connecting threads, 0.5-2.0 µm diam., simple branched and anastomosed and with dark brown nodular enlargements. Spores: (9.8)10.0-11.1(13.3) µm, dark brown, densely warted, with groups of larger warts.
