Although they aren't blooming yet, their rhododendron habitat, size and leaves match the kidneyleaf twayblades I have seen at grandfather mountain, so I feel as if the ID is likely.
Checking in on this site for twayblades again this year. The orchids on the sections of the trail closer to the parking area had already begun to wilt - maybe due to the heat and dry weather? But the patches close to where the Cragways Trail forks off were in fine shape. There were even a few large ones - the biggest I saw had no flowers on it but was approximately the height of my outstretched hand (~15+ cm?), next to a flowing stream. So the orchids that were still around were unusually large and nice!
