This is a film photo from a Kodak photo CD. This photo shows two large nestlings, already in their adult plumage, waiting to be fed. The 2nd photo shows the same two nestlings plus a third being fed insect food by a parent who was only at the nest for a split second. The adults seem to be on the wing from dawn to dark, catching food in the air. These photos were taken at Coast Guard Beach which is part of Cape Cod National Seashore in Massachusetts in August, 1984. This is a public bathing beach. While taking pictures, I attracted a small crowd of people who were apparently oblivious to the nesting swallows before I started taking photos. I heard comments ranging from, “Oh, aren’t they cute”, to “Why would anyone waste film on dumb birds?” Fortunately, the nesting area was roped off. The photos were taken from behind the rope.
