I believe this is a blue magnolia or cucumber tree, but would love some help. The leaves are alternating, ovate, and smooth on the margins. Leaves are brighter green on the top, but I could not say that they are downy on the underside.
The bark does not have any protuberances, which is one reason I do not think it is a Hackberry.
There are no flowers or fruits on the tree yet.
I cannot tell whether the tree was cultivated or not, but there are three of these trees planted pretty close together along a community pathway, so I am going to mark them as cultivated.
what’s causing this weird discoloration?
*** Rare vagrant. Adult male with American Green-winged Teal. Conspicuous horizontal white stripes with no suggestion of a faint vertical white stripe (which would suggest an intergrade), bolder face pattern.
This observation is already listed in Maryland Biodiversity Project. I am posting for Maryland Moths and Butterflies, iNaturalist, and separately on eButterfly.
