This spider is one of the seven deadly spiders in Iran. It feeds on insects and sometimes reptiles and small mammals. It has an hourglass mark under its abdomen, varying from red to orange. The egg sacs of this species are prickly.
This widow spider is distributed in most regions of Iran and is the most abundant spider of the widow genus in Iran. If not treated, the bite will lead to death or severe complications. In immature specimens, thirteen red to golden designs can be seen on the spider's chest, which disappear when the spider reaches maturity. In Iran, for this reason, it is known as the thirteen-lobed spider.
