Caught and relocated from the camp pool.
Need and identification on this snake. Pic sent to me by a neighbor from our horse pasture.
Unfortunately, my (inside only) cat killed it. I found her playing with it inside my house, so it must have gotten in somehow.
Smelled it before I saw it!
Brought inside by a cat, safely released into a compost pile. Its behavior and movements seemed normal after about 30 seconds of being in my hands.

Wild snake on the trail, slightly pointed nose, thick body.
Maybe a ratsnake. About 8 or 9 inches long, once I stopped to notice it, it went from lying still on the sidewalk to slithering off into the grass.
