Seen one hopping and foraging on the forest floor after leaving the rangers station. Weather was around high-60s yet it seemed a bit colder in the shadows of forest.
First mammal seen after getting to the bottom of the initial walk down when walking towards the ranger station. It was the only squirrel seen the whole trip. It was a bit colder in the shadows of the trees so I believe it was around high-60s.
On a lab trip, while we were having a discussion about rocks, our professor heard a bird call. He then told us the mountain chickadee call sounds like “cheeseburger” after confirming it was that bird. Two were seen sitting in a dead-looking tree in the distance behind us. The weather was very nice it was not super windy and around low-70s F.
