Young of the year: flight feathers all in roughly same stage of growth. Saw some buff-tipped body feathers as well. First two pictures of the tail feather fan, then the rest presented in order of finding.
Feathers distributed across a somewhat large area, less like a pile in one place and more like a scattered collection plucked from a point higher up (i.e. a tree).
Diameter of sphere about 13 cm, diameter of opening about 3.5 cm. In a suburban yard, adjacent to an open area of grassland. Possibly Northern Pocket Gopher?
earthworm castings
Tracks on the path to the conservation pond at River Ranch WMA. We think the tracks are black bear. The shoe print is 13 inches long for comparison, so the animal print is about 7 inches long.
Found on a ridge above a wetland. Fed on by a smallish carnivore given neat, cleaned remnants with no bone breakage, including through tight rib spaces. Likely weasel or mink. Killed and cached by a larger predator, likely mountain lion or bear.

Found bird, won't or can not fly. Not sure what type of bird it is. Is it a brown quail or something else?
