Many seen along the trail in meadow (open area) with the deep red color in the wings seen in flight.

Very red wings when it flew and it made noise when it flew. In a grassy/bare dirt area that was coming back from a burn 3 years ago. Small.

This is just a guess. Found it dead on the ground in this semi-dilapidated state.

In flight, wings seemed to be red with a black band (unless my color-blindness made me think green or something was red).

A very dark brown to black grasshopper.
