The trail camera is documenting this beautiful Gray Fox almost every morning. The fox shows up typically between about 6:00-9:00 AM. It's a small individual; I saw it in person for the first time just in early November.

A green chiton attached to a half crab. We observed this alien looking commensal beast while undertaking an intertidal survey on the reefs off Hawera. It made us jump when we first turned over the rock.

The zebra was injured during the river crossing but made it to shore. A leopard appeared from nowhere to finish it off, but then the croc came from the water for a standoff... the croc eventually backed down.

Camera trap set-up on roadkill (Macropus eugenii decres). This family group (2 adults, 1 young) was present in the area every day from at least the beginning of March. The adult was waiting patiently for its offspring to get it's fill, but eventually decided it had waited long enough (4 minutes!)

The vixen tried to pretend that she didn't see the koala, but glanced at it surreptitiously a few times. The koala approached to within 2-3 m of the vixen, looked at it for a few seconds, then went on its way.

Eastern Cottontail and Douglas' Squirrel both seen (on game camera) entering the burrow and investigating briefly before leaving in less than a minute.
Mountain Beaver is seen collecting fallen cottonwood leaves and bringing them back to burrow on numerous occasions.

Is it a fish? Is it a slug? Is it a fishy anemone? I do not have a clue what this is!

It is about 30mm long and there were a few of them in the sand - outgoing tide nearly on the turn. Most were buried and only the "fan fin" was showing.

Resting on the wet sand, when the sand collapsed it arched it's face upwards (2nd and third photos) and seem to spawn capsule from somewhere - there are 2 floating in the 4th pic.

Totally hypnotic, by the time my sister-in-law and I carried on the brother had walked 2kms away from us!
