Drama. These guys all normally get along pretty well, but here a squirrel decided to start something and nearly got kicked in the head as reward. Moments later they were back to munching sunflower seeds side-by-side again.

Observation is for the creepy crawlies all over this gator's mouth. (But take a nice look at those pearly-white teeth while you're at it!)

Field Notes - DescriptionThe family Phylliidae contains the extant true leaf insects or walking leaves, which include some of the most remarkably camouflaged leaf mimics in the entire animal kingdom. They occur from South Asia through Southeast Asia to Australia.

The only other plant found growing in the immediate vicinity was a succulent shrub species of Amaranthaceae, Arthraerua leubnitziae. Heavy fog in the morning. Ten miles East, no fog. In this way Welwitschia can be seen to be a relictual species somewhat akin to coastal redwoods of California, both clinging to a narrow strip along the coast of a cold ocean where they can find what they need to survive and in the case of Welwitschia, avoid competition.

3612/3 Photo taken by me during a school trip to Mana Pools. The buff charged us while we were taking a morning break - my bag can be seen on its left. It later moved off and the 3 boys came to safety. It had been wounded by a poacher and a few days later it was shot by a ranger.
