Birmingham Audubon's SwiftMap project aims to identify man-made and natural structures utilized by Alabama Chimney Swift populations (Chaetura pelagica) during breeding and migration.
You can help by:
1) identifying uncapped industrial and/or residential chimneys located anywhere in Alabama (will need more details based on size and shape—otherwise, we'll get every chimney in the city). At the minimum, submissions must include detailed location data; those that also include a photograph and a description of the structure are especially helpful.
2) monitoring potential roosts for "swiftnado" activity during the fall swift migration (August through October).
3) reporting evidence of Chimney Swift nesting activity in a man-made or natural structure.
[This is where a more detailed look at Chimney Swift identification and biology will go.]
