I am a recently retired professional symphony musician (double bass) but have been a naturalist since I was born. I started as a birder, but expanded my horizon when I joined the Dragonfly Society of the Americas over 20 years ago and love to attend as many of their meetings as I can. I grew up in Nebraska where I started birding in the Platte River valley, and in Colorado where I attended music camp in the summer. We moved to Virginia over 35 years ago.

I have recently become fascinated with Diptera, and am astounded at the endless diversity of this order of insects. I have started an iNat project recording the diversity in my own small yard in Richmond, and am constantly learning.

I use an Olympus TG-7 for my macro shots as I like the good macro capability of this little camera and the focus stacking. I have a light sheet in my back yard too. For birds I use my Canon SX70.

I do the best I can to ID the photos I submit, but if you disagree with my ID, I will NOT take it personally. Please feel free to disagree. I am interested in learning, and it is part of the process.
