A chance movement by a bird into a cooperative sunbeam allowed me to be certain of my Red-eyed Vireo.
While photographing a Fourteen-spotted Lady Beetle, I happened to notice a jumping spider lurking in the background. The spider posed cooperatively (so often they jump away!)
Whatever. I am grateful for the opportunity to witness these amazing creatures and to share them with others.
A chance movement by the bird into a handy shaft of sunlight gave me a flash of that red eye and made me certain of ID. First time I have seen one of these.
This being an introduced species, I was hoping that the jumping spider in the background of that last picture would eat well.
I accepted inat's suggestion on genus, and looked over the species. Just can't be sure. I included different angles in case someone can help.
Doesn't look like she's interested in chowing down on the non-native ladybird beetle, though.
