Crotalus mitchellii

Crotalus mitchellii is a venomous pit viper species found in the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It was named in honor of Silas Weir Mitchell (1829-1914), a medical doctor who also studied rattlesnake venoms. Five subspecies are currently recognized, including the nominate subspecies described here.

Range description 8

This snake is endemic to the island of El Muerto, in the Gulf of California, Mexico.

Listed as Least Concern because, although it is known from only one island, the island where it occurs is not known to be inhabited by humans. The species is not considered to be at particular risk from invasive species introductions or from hurricanes and other natural disasters.
