Description 2

Medium to large sized (70 cm) , hot to cool growing, epiphyte or terrestrial with simple, slender, glabrous stems enveloped by a few remote sheaths and carrying in the upper half, elliptic lanceolate, abruptly long acuminate, membranaceous, tapering to a sessile base leaves that blooms in the winter and spring on a terminal, slender, loose, lax, many flowered, to 8" (20 cm) long, racemose inflorescence with spreading, triangular-linear to narrowly triangular lanceolate bracts that are slightly shorter than the flowers.

It blooms in winter and spring.

Habitat Type 2

Found at elevations of 200 to 2700 meters. Can live in a wide range of both xeric and mesic habitats. This species grows in small dense clumps, both as a terrestrial and as an epiphyte, throughout the sub-Andean and Pre-Andean dry/wet premontane, montane and cloud forests. The taxon is reported to occur in 10 ecoregions (GIS data). It has also been collected in deep ravines, thickets, roadsides, and on ridges.
