Description ²

The species, which is related to the garden primrose, has all of its leaves radiating from a common point at the tip of each stem. The flowers are also distinctive. Each one has a nodding posture and white basal patch at the base of each petal that gives the flower a white central “eye.”

Distribution (circa 2001) ³

This small, vibrant flower is found in shady wooded areas in the northern part of the state. It is found in mixed evergreen, redwood and yellow pine forests, mostly below 1375 meters, throughout its range.
