There is an expression "Gilding the Lily" which implies adding unnecessary decoration to something already exquisite. The beauty of the Golden Brodiaea makes this expression understandable. The boldly veined perianth of yellow petals and sepals turn blue with age. The stamens consist of blue anthers that terminate filaments with a double-humped ribbon-like margin. These embellishments truly make this Brodiaea a gilded Lily.
Coniferous forest margins, often in sand or gravel from the northern Klamath Range to the Sierra Nevada; 600-3000 m.
