Description ²

The flower of this species is unique and distinguishing. The petals are obovate to spathulate in outline, clawed and copiously bearded on the upper surface. Leaves are slender, smooth and almost grass-like in appearance like many members of the Lily family.

Distribution (circa 2001) ³

Beavertail Grass is found in open gravelly places and woods between 600–1800m, often in coniferous forests of the Coastal Ranges of California.
