The pea family, one of the largest families of flowering plants, is also economically important and widespread in many plant communities around the world. This wild pea is a weak stemmed perennial that produces few flowers in a short raceme. The compound leaves have 4–10 narrow leaflets and a central axis terminates in a coiled tendril that is used to climb and cling to adjacent plant.
Found on open slopes from 1200–2000m; northernmost counties and in parts of California's Great Basin, north to Washington, Idaho and Utah.
