Distinguishing Features: Seeds are round and firm and stay green after the wings turn brown

Shape: 40 to 80 feet tall
Branching: Opposite
Leaf: Lobed, with 5 lobes
Flower: Inconspicuous, small yellowish green, before leaves in April
Bark: Smooth, gray-brown in youth develops thick, irregular, recurved plates with age
Fruit or Seed: Samaras, 1 to 1.75 inches long, as a pair they form a horseshoe shape
