Distinguishing Features: Conical shape in youth, opening with age

Shape: 40 to 50 feet tall, can have an oval/columnar/pyramidal shape
Branching: Opposite
Leaf: Spine-like, scale-like, less than 2 inches long, green, fragrant
Flower: N/A. Separate male and female plants. Male pollen cones yellowish, about 1/8 inch and produced in large groups. Female seed cones initial green, later become pale blue.
Bark: Red-brown color, showy trunk, shreds in long strips
Fruit or Seed: Less than 0.5 inches long, waxy berry-like cones, blue/purple color
