Distinguishing Features: Milky sap in leaf veins, young twigs may have corky ridges
Shape: 25 to 35 feet tall, small, low-branched, dense, rounded
Branching: Opposite
Leaf: Dark green leaves, 3 to 5 lobes, up to 4 inches across, leaves turn variable shade of yellow in fall
Flower: Small, yellow-green flowers in clusters
Bark: Grey-black, shallow ridges and furrows
Fruit or Seed: Samaras, nutlets are 1.25 to 1.75 inches, often pubescent pairs of samaras join to form a nearly straight line
