Distinguishing Features: Fan-shaped leaves with parallel veins and notches

Shape: 40 to 80 feet tall, has pyramidal, rounded shape
Branching: Alternate
Leaf: Smooth, 2 to 3 inches long, triangular/fan-like in shape, bright green color which turns yellow in Autumn
Flower: Not ornamental. Separate male and female plants. Male flowers are 1 inch long catkins (Spring), female flowers are green, naked ovules
Bark: Grey to brown, ridged
Fruit or Seed: Produced on female trees only. Naked seed light orange to tan in color, ¾ to 1 ½ inches in size, and in clusters of 2-6. Flesh covering seed has foul smell
