Distinguishing Features: Fruit bearing in autumn, white flowers in spring

Shape: 30 to 40 feet tall, round oval shape
Branching: Alternate
Leaf: 2 to 4 inches long, ovate shape, simple, shiny dark leathery green in spring, orange/purple/red/yellow in fall
Flower: White flowers, 5 petals, 1 inch across, unpleasant smell
Bark: Thin and easily damaged, gray-brown, smooth on young trees, splitting into scales with age
Fruit or Seed: Fruits mature in fall and are small, hard, brown, apple-like, and almost woody
