Distinguishing Features: Single-winged seeds in dense clusters, bud fuzzy and dark red-brown. Leaflets usually white or pale beneath
Shape: 60 to 70 feet tall, oval at youth, round with age

Leaf: Compound, 8 to 15 inches long, 5-9 leaflets, dark green on top, turns yellow-red in fall
Flower: Small flowers that are green, purple, and black
Bark: Light to dark gray, uniformly furrowed with even, diamond-shaped pattern
Fruit or Seed: Samaras are 1 to 2 inches long and narrow, paddle-shaped and winged
