Description ²

Many plants in the family Asteraceae look like daisies. This plant family which contains more species than any other in California exhibits many variations (some subtle and some striking) on the daisy theme. The underside of the flower head in Madia is subtended by a radiating cluster of green leaf-like structures called phyllaries. These are arranged in a single row with flat tips. These and other distinguishing features enable one to identify this plant and separate it from other members of the daisy family.
