Only shrew species on Orcas Island. Observed running across the road.
Photos are of two different frogs of the same species taken about 1.5 meters from each other. They are both about 3 - 4 cm long and grey/olive green with darker black/brown markings. From observation, they seem to be able to make themselves a more vibrant green at night, when they are more active. I frequently find them hunkered down in places like this, where they will spend much of the day until nightfall. Interesting that this species is also a brighter green on the west side of the Cascades than the east -- perhaps suggesting regional variants?
At golf course (not my photo, sent to me by a friend). Found (and caught) when it was about 6 inches underwater in a pond/lake at golf course.
Very young snake. Can’t tell if it has a tiny knob on the end of its tail….
Violet green Swallow, Marymoor, 220624
Interesting that I began hearing these sing here in earnest over the past week when I had not heard them here except one passing through earlier in the spring.
