ESPAÑOL: No se bien que es lo que encontré en esta situación. Al principio pensé que era un comportamiento de apareamiento, pero después vía que ambas parecían estar muriendo. La verdad no se ni siquiera si son dos especies diferentes.

ENGLISH: I don't know what I found in this situation. At first I thought it was mating behavior, but then I saw that they both seemed to be dying. The truth is I don't even know if they are two different species.

I've never seen a mantis with any sort of attachments, but this little one was covered in large dirt particles - maybe for camouflage? It didn't seem accidental and certainly did a good job of breaking up the mantis's outline, so I'm curious to know whether the mantis did it itself. Has anyone seen this sort of thing before?

small bark mantid

small Bark mantid with beautiful reticulated wings and a flattened, flap-like edge around the thorax, length about 4cm. The first 2 photos were taken in the kitchen in the evening and the further photos were outside the door the following morning. I believe it is the same individual and that it got itself hooked up on an old spiders web, photo 4 has dishevelled wings after the web was removed, it recovered as seen in the final photos and flew away .

attracted to light. About 6cm long Pink patch under front legs.I kept it in a container for two days and it produced this egg case.https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/36328157. I assume the mantis is a female ! There was no male present in those two days.
